The 15th biennial “Breastfeeding: Baby’s Natural Choice Conference” will be held in-person on Aug. 30 from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m at the La Vista Conference Center. Registration is open for the event.
This conference will enable the learner to provide competent and successful support for breastfeeding through essential topics concerning common lactation issues such as mastitis, engorgement and other common complications. It will focus on team-based approaches to bring awareness of the critical roles and responsibilities of the health care team when providing feeding support options while addressing behavioral health wellness and providing trauma-informed care to help overcome breastfeeding difficulties.
It is sponsored by the Olson Center for Women’s Health, UNMC College of Medicine Center for Continuing Education and the UNMC College of Nursing Continuing interProfessional Development and Innovation.
This accredited continuing education activity is designed for physicians (OB/GYN, pediatric and family medicine), nurses, lactation consultants, registered dietitians, medical nutrition therapists, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, breastfeeding advocates, social workers and students.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Discuss techniques in practice for overcoming breastfeeding difficulties involving craniosacral therapy, trauma-informed care and behavioral health approaches to wellness.
- Describe the varied guidance surrounding breast massage and how it can impact mastitis, engorgement/overproduction and other breast complications.
- Summarize team-based strategies and responsibilities when determining feeding support options for tongue-tie babies and complementary feeding during breastfeeding.
Registration, available here, is $125 for general registration or $50 for students with full-time verification; the cost includes breakfast, lunch and continuing education credit.
