Shane Tsai, MD, has been named chief of the UNMC Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, part of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, effective July 1.
Dr. Tsai succeeds Dan Anderson, MD, PhD, who is stepping down after five years as division chief to return to being a UNMC clinician-investigator.
The announcement was made by Debra Romberger, MD, professor and chair of internal medicine.
Dr. Tsai has been section chief of electrophysiology in the cardiovascular medicine division and vice chair for specialty clinical care for the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine. He has served as medical director of cardiac implantable electronic devices and the electrophysiology laboratory. As division chief, Dr. Tsai also will be a part of the physician leadership team for Nebraska Medicine’s heart and vascular clinical program.
“He has proven himself in his current leadership roles, and I look forward to the next phase of our important cardiovascular medicine legacy under his guidance,” Dr. Romberger said. “Dr. Tsai is an outstanding clinician with education expertise and strong research interests, and he is committed to the continued success of the division.”
Dr. Tsai’s clinical interests include the care of adolescents and adults with congenital heart disease, as well as the management of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. He received extensive training and board certification in both pediatric and adult medicine and cardiovascular disorders, as well as procedural cardiac electrophysiology. His particular interest is in the application of state-of-the-art catheter ablation and pacing technologies to the treatment of arrhythmias in complex congenital heart disease.
Dr. Romberger said she is grateful to Dr. Anderson for his leadership and dedication to his colleagues and patients.
“Dr. Anderson has shown passion, energy and commitment in leading the division,” she said. “He will be continuing in his faculty role with his usual energy for providing excellent patient care and his involvement in research and education.”
