The UNMC College of Public Health will host Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam, MD, for a grand rounds presentation today (June 12) titled “Sharing Experience: The 2022 Ebola Outbreak in Uganda.”
Dr. Woldemariam is a World Health Organization representative and head of mission to Uganda. He will speak at noon in the Maurer Center for Public Health, Room 3013, or via Zoom.
Dr. Woldemariam has 40 years of experience in clinical medicine, disaster management, project management and partnership development. He has worked in rural and referral hospitals in Ethiopia, with international humanitarian organizations following genocide in Rwanda and with WHO programs in Geneva, Southeast Asia and Uganda.
In his current role, Dr. Woldemariam leads a team of experts to advise the Ugandan government and other stakeholders in addressing public health matters. He also coordinates global response in times of outbreaks and other health emergencies.
He has successfully led WHO interventions with Marburg, Ebola in Zaire, COVID-19, measles, malaria, cholera and most recently an Ebola outbreak in Sudan.
