How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC?

I started at UNMC in July 2020 and will be finished June 2023. The training program for the dual fellowship pathway in GI and transplant hepatology is three years.

What do you like the most about your training program?

The people and the patients. All staff in the department are incredibly supportive, and the diversity of patient care is unique. As a quaternary referral center, patient complexity provides an outstanding training experience in the outpatient, inpatient and procedural setting.

What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future?

Technological innovations have drastically changed how we teach and learn. As educators, a willingness to adapt to this evolving landscape of education and apply novel strategies to effectively train future generations of learners will be essential.

List some accomplishments that you are proud of:

Successfully pursuing my dream of being a physician through hard work, determination and perseverance. Continuing to be a lifelong learner as a clinician, researcher, educator, husband and father.

Tell us three things about you that others may not know:

  • I played piano in a pop/rock/punk band called The Rib and Wing Combo.
  • I am a former semi-professional golf caddy.
  • During my undergraduate studies in Canada, I competed nationally in cross-country skiing.
