UNMC will celebrate its annual CultureFest event on May 25 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza.
CultureFest is UNMC’s annual celebration of culture, inclusion and diversity, filled with interactive booths, food and entertainment. This year’s theme of “Nebraska Treasures” will celebrate all things Nebraska, including some widely known and little-known gems.
Starting at 11 a.m., food trucks will be on site offering lunch for sale. Several event food and beverage stations will offer free samples of products created in Nebraska, including Runza, Arby’s, Sodexo and Hiland Dairy ice cream.
Event programming will begin at noon. Singer Dani Cleveland will open with the Nebraska State Song, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Scarlet Dancers will perform at 12:45 p.m. A presentation by the Florence Mill, Nebraska’s oldest Nebraska business, is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Representatives from the Henry Doorly Zoo also will be on hand.
Employees can compete in a scavenger hunt to win prizes and find out more about the contributions of the many vendors participating in the event. This activity will be offered in-person and online (details on participating online will be available later in UNMC Today).
The Nebraska Treasures event also will recognize notable Nebraskans who made significant contributions to the state, including UNMC’s own Kyle Meyer, PhD, dean of the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions, and Sasha Shillcutt, MD, PhD, a professor in the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology and a cardiac anesthesiologist with Nebraska Medicine.
Volunteers are needed to help with CultureFest. Click on this link to sign up online by May 16.
Email Giovanni Jones with questions.
In case of inclement weather, the celebration will move to the Truhlsen Events Center.
Exciting to hear that this is happening this year. Good luck for a successful event and The Offices of Inclusion & Equity will plan to attend if possible.
