Honors and recognition

UNMC College of Nursing students, faculty and staff earned a number of recognitions this spring.

Linda Herrick, PhD, was reappointed to the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) for a full three-year term. Her term began on Jan. 1, 2023, and ends on Dec. 31, 2025. The ARC is tasked with “making confidential recommendations regarding accreditation” to the CCNE Board of Commissioners. It meets twice per year.

Diane McMurray successfully defended her dissertation titled “The Lived Experiences and Essence of Nursing Faculty Teaching Clinical Reasoning and Clinical Judgment to Pre-licensure Nursing Students in Baccalaureate Programs.” Dr. McMurray graduated May 5 from Bryan College of Health Sciences.

Melissa Florell successfully defended her PhD dissertation “A Critical Examination of Rural Perception of Health and Health Policy.” Dr. Florell will graduate this May from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.  

Tiffany Moore, PhD, was notified of her acceptance to the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing Fellowship. This is an important acknowledgement of all her contributions and continued impact in improving care for women, newborns, and their families.

Kaycee Kube, academic success coach for the Northern Division, was chosen as one of the Top 20 under 40 for the community of Norfolk. The Top 20 Under 40 annually profiles 20 young professionals who are excelling in their perspective fields, as well as growing as a community leader.

Tami Braley, PhD, successfully defended her dissertation, titled “A Qualitative Multiple Case Study of the Multi-Dimensional Rural Spousal Caregivers’ Experience with Health Promotion,” on April 11. She graduated this May.

Abbey Klein, PhD, successfully defended her dissertation titled “Self-Management of Urinary Incontinence in Women” on March 27. She graduated this May.

Lynne Buchanan, PhD, received a two-year appointment to the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), as well as being appointed to a two-year term on the NONPF Curricular Leadership Committee. The committee advises on quality curricular design, new and emerging curricula, NP program and educational guidelines development, and competency development, revision and validation.
