Elora Newton, accounting and office associate in the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology, recently received the Silver U Award.
Newton was commended by her supervisor and nominator, Sherry Andersen, for her commitment to faculty and staff, and her willingness to step in and provide help and guidance when needed.
Andersen said Newton is indispensable and puts in extra effort in assisting members of the department, also demonstrating superb leadership skills and a commitment to teamwork, helping to train new associates and making herself available to answer questions and guide them.
“Elora Newton consistently goes above and beyond to help make the office run more smoothly,” Andersen said. “She has been with the department of anesthesiology for a little over a year, and she has made herself indispensable not only to me but to the whole department.”
Andersen said she also appreciates Newton’s efforts in finding innovative ways to assist the department members with computer, phone and travel issues and lending a hand when Andersen is unavailable.
“She is extremely helpful to all and assists everyone with requests that normally wouldn’t be assigned to her without complaint,” Andersen said. “I’m truly grateful for her, she truly is a great person and a phenomenal employee. It is also my hope that she stays with us for a very long time.”
Newton joined UNMC in 2018 and served as accounts payable lead in procurement services and as an office associate at the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine before joining the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology in 2021.
Newton said she is honored to receive the Silver U award.
“It is an incredible moment for me and I am so grateful for the acknowledgment of my work,” Newton said. “I would especially like to thank my supervisor Sherry Andersen for her dedication and commitment to the growth and development of her employees. It is her encouragement and support that has enabled me to get this far.”
