UNMC to raze vacant structures along Leavenworth

UNMC emblem

By month’s end, UNMC plans to raze three vacant properties near 44th and Leavenworth streets.

UNMC purchased the properties – located on the north side of Leavenworth Street at 4412 Leavenworth St., 4408 Leavenworth Street and 4402 Leavenworth St. – in 2021 to allow for possible future development opportunities.

Once the properties are razed, UNMC will create green space, as well as some parking, on the empty lots.

UNMC also owns several of the vacant retail storefront properties on either side of Barrett’s Barleycorn Pub & Grill and Castle Barrett’s, but there are no immediate plans to raze these properties. For now, UNMC will make minor investments in these storefront properties – also on the north side of Leavenworth Street – to stabilize and return the properties to use.

The work planned for these Leavenworth property sites is not related to UNMC’s Saddle Creek Campus development site, which was formerly home to Omaha Steel Castings.

    Dear UNMC neighbor,
Could we please have a pollinator garden in the space you razed on the east side of Barrett’s?
    Thank you for listening!
