Upoma Guha, BDS, MS, an associate professor in the department of adult restorative dentistry, was recently selected as an Executive Councilor 2024 for the Academy of Operative Dentistry, an organization that promotes excellence in the field of Operative Dentistry by influencing the practice of the health professions in organized dentistry, health science education and research. Dr. Guha is serving a three-year term as Executive Councilor from 2022 to 2024.
The Academy of Operative Dentistry is the primary international organization for Operative Dentistry, with members including clinical dentists, researchers, educators and students from numerous countries across the globe.
In her role as Executive Councilor, Dr. Guha will be a voice for operative dentistry educators, making decisions that impact operative dentistry education and the Academy of Operative Dentistry.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as a leader in the field of operative dentistry and to have an international platform to serve my field,” Dr. Guha said.
As one of the leaders of the Academy of Operative Dentistry, Dr. Guha will help the organization achieve its purpose: to establish and communicate a very high standard for the practice of operative dentistry, to empower members in attaining excellence in their professional work, and to support and inspire the standard of excellence in all dental disciplines.
Dr. Guha is the first Bangladeshi faculty member in the history of the Academy of Operative Dentistry to be selected as an Executive Councilor.
“I not only have the opportunity to represent UNMC at an international level, but I also am representing my country, Bangladesh,” she said. “This is the first time a Bangladeshi faculty member has held a significant leadership role on the international platform of operative dentistry.”
