N. Shaun Matthews, BDS, FDS, MBBS

The third of five finalists vying for the role of UNMC College of Dentistry dean will be on the Omaha and Lincoln campuses this week.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to hear from N. Shaun Matthews, BDS, FDS, MBBS, during a campus presentation Thursday, April 6. He is clinical professor and chair of oral and maxillofacial surgery and hospital dentistry at Indiana University School of Dentistry and also serves as associate dean for hospital affairs and director of IUSD’s Temporomandibular Joint Institute.

The forum will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. CT in the Dixon Auditorium at the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln and via Zoom. Attendees can access the Zoom link via this intranet page and ask questions during the forum.

Dr. Matthews is internationally recognized for his work in temporomandibular joint surgery and well published in telehealth with over 12 years of experience in the field of teledentistry. As a lifelong academic, he has been responsible for creating multiple, collaborative, interdisciplinary clinics embracing both dental and medical disciplines. Dr. Matthews is a fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh.

In addition to Dr. Matthews, finalists include:

  • Galen Schneider, DDS, PhD, executive associate dean, associate dean of faculty and professor, University of Iowa College of Dentistry, who was on campus March 20-21. 
  • J. Bruce Bavitz, DMD, chair of the department of surgical specialties at the UNMC College of Dentistry. He will visit April 10-11, with a campus presentation Tuesday, April 11.
  • Gerard Kugel, DMD, PhD, associate dean for research and professor of comprehensive care at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He will visit April 12-13, with a campus presentation Thursday, April 13.

All finalist forums will be in in the Dixon Auditorium at the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln and via Zoom. The Zoom links will be available via the finalist intranet page; links for each finalist’s campus presentation will be added on the day of their visit.

Provide feedback on Dr. Matthew’s presentation via a confidential survey form. Following the visit, a recording of the candidate’s campus presentation will be posted on the intranet.
