April 22 is Earth Day, and the med center is celebrating all April long.
This year, the med center is participating in the Earth Month Ecochallenge, will hold two campus cleanups and a tree-planting ceremony and offer a webinar on sustainable design in campus development.
The annual personal recycling and shredding event is scheduled for April 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 19 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It will be held at the UNMC Grounds Building (annex 23) in Lot 17, 4650 Jones St. Enter by turning north onto 45th Street from Leavenworth Street. Follow the signs northwest to the grounds building. Enter on the south side, exit to the north onto Saddle Creek Road. Click here to see a map.
People dropping off items must be UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, University of Nebraska at Omaha or Clarkson College faculty, staff or student. A valid ID badge is required.
Paper and electronics are accepted for recycling. Items must be separated by category — containers with mixed items will not be accepted. Paper can be in totes, boxes or paper bags; totes and boxes will be returned.
Many small electronics, including cell phones and hand-held devices, are accepted for recycling without a fee. Other electronics, including computers and TVs, have a recycling fee. See the website for details.
Seedlings and wildflower seed packets will be available, courtesy of the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District. Anyone interested in volunteering at the event can sign up here.
