UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Information Technology has been working behind the scenes to improve connection speeds and reduce disconnects to the Guest and Eduroam Wi-Fi networks.
Thursday, IT implemented its latest set of improvements, which resulted in a brief pause in service.
Before 2020, personal and corporate devices were allowed to access the same network, which increased risk to patients and organization. Over the last couple years, many updates have been implemented to minimize this risk. That includes changes to the firewall settings, which caused some latency and connection issues.
Additional improvements will occur throughout the coming week.
The ultimate goal is to provide a quality user experience, while also ensuring that the organization, guests and patients are safe. IT wants to thank everyone for their patience through a 25-month journey for the department.
