GME, departments thank UNMC house officers

The Office of Graduate Medical Education provided cookies with messages on them to residents and fellows.

Last month, UNMC celebrated its house officers with a variety of activities during House Officer Appreciation Week and Thank a Resident Day on Feb. 24.

Jordan Burr, DO, anatomic and clinical pathology resident, shows off some of her House Officer Appreciation Week swag.

Events were planned and sponsored by UNMC’s Graduate Medical Education, Gold Humanism Honor Society and/or the College of Medicine Alumni Council. Many departments recognized their own residents and fellows, as well, with food, group lunches and gifts. Throughout the week, house officers were treated with free food and fun — from lunch and breakfast in the House Officer Wellness Lounge to cookies, coffee and pastries, and trivia night (with a taco bar and lots of challenging questions).

In addition, house officers had the opportunity to attend free barre classes during the month, take their pups to the local dog bar at no charge and, through a random raffle, receive gift cards from local businesses.

In a thank you letter to UNMC house officers, UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD; Nebraska Medicine CEO James Linder, MD; College of Medicine Dean Bradley Britigan, MD; and GME Associate Dean, Chandra Are, MD, wrote:

“Your unwavering commitment and unyielding dedication to providing the highest quality of patient care during these perpetually challenging times is truly noteworthy. You represent some of the best we have to offer to our patients and humanity at large…

“On behalf of the leaders who represent the entire campus, we want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for admirably demonstrating the true qualities of a physician.”
