FireEye security software has changed names

A rebranding in the corporate world of information security has led to the renaming of a software running on med center work stations, laptops and servers.

In January 2022, FireEye and McAfee Enterprise became a new brand and company named Trellix. For the last year, Trellix has been rebranding the FireEye software.

Recently, med center computers may have flashed a message about FireEye being disabled and the Trellix software being started. The change appropriately raised concerns across the med center.

IT staff discovered this change only after it occurred. The new icon in the system tray is an “X” on white background, as shown to the right.

There have been no other changes to how the agent works — only the change in the name from FireEye to Trellix. With questions about Trellix, contact UNMC/Nebraska Medicine Information Security.
