University of Nebraska staff are reminded that they need to complete NU’s Alternative Worksite Form by Jan. 31 if they wish to start, adjust or continue remote work.
The form is available in Firefly, under the “Alternative Worksite Arrangement” tab.
The form was developed as part of the NU System’s new Alternative Worksite Policy, announced last month by senior leadership. The policy allows for flexible work arrangements with certain parameters.
In accordance with the policy, staff wishing to start, adjust or continue remote work are required to fill out the Alternative Worksite Form and submit it to their supervisor by Tuesday, Jan. 31. Staff requesting to work remotely for 50% or more of their time also will need approval from their campus vice chancellor for business and finance.
Staff who only work remotely occasionally – for example, an occasional period away from the office for any personal or professional reason – do not need to take action. In other words, the Alternative Worksite Form is required only for those seeking remote or hybrid work on a regular, ongoing basis.
Remote and hybrid work arrangements are expected to be subject to annual approval.
Complete details on the NU System’s Alternative Worksite Policy, including Q&As on remote, hybrid and out-of-state work, are available here.
UNMC staff members with questions are invited to contact Sarah Gloden Carlson, JD, UNMC’s assistant vice chancellor and director for human resources, via email at this link.
The Alternative Worksite Policy does not currently apply to faculty.
