Sen. Mike Jacobson tours UNMC

Nebraska State Sen. Mike Jacobson tours UNMC's iEXCEL program with Michael Hollins, associate executive director, community and business strategy.

Nebraska State Sen. Mike Jacobson, who represents District 42, toured UNMC in December, meeting with Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and other university leaders.

Sen. Jacobson’s visit included a discussion with Marley Doyle, MD, and her team at the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska about statewide behavioral health efforts, as well as a tour of the iEXCEL program, where he received a demonstration of some of UNMC’s state-of-the-art education technology.

Sen. Jacobson said he was “truly impressed” with what he saw and learned during his visit.

“This goes well beyond anything I imagined I would see today,” he said. “As a rural state senator, I often get asked about the rural-urban divide, and what impresses me the most about UNMC is all the work you’re doing here. You’re training clinicians to go across the state, you have facilities across the state — you truly have a statewide reach, which we don’t often see.

“It’s very easy for someone like me, in west-central Nebraska, to really embrace and support what’s going on here at UNMC. You’re serving all of Nebraska, and that’s what it ought to be about.”
