How I fell in love with rheumatology: Rheumatic diseases encompass a wide variety of manifestations and body systems, which makes every clinic interesting and allows me to use the breadth of my internal medicine training. Many of our conditions directly affect the quality of life, and with continued improvements in therapeutics, rheumatologists can make a tremendous impact on patients’ lives. Most importantly, we get to follow patients long-term and form longitudinal relationships, which makes for an incredibly rewarding career.
