Stephen Peters is the recipient of the UNMC College of Public Health Silver U Award for December 2022. The award recognizes employees whose overall performance is above and beyond the scope of their position and demonstrates UNMC values including innovation, teamwork, excellence, accountability, courage and healing.
Stephen, an instructor in the Health Services Research & Administration (HSRA) department and director of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program, was commended by a nominator for his “work to advance the program and the College in teaching and research demonstrate UNMC’s values at the highest level. He has led efforts to standardize the MHA and MPH capstone and experiential learning course and strengthened our engagement with community-based health organizations to create student fellowship and internship opportunities. He readily volunteers for projects and is always willing to explore new approaches to achieve a goal. Lastly, he is able to ‘walk in others’ shoes’ and seeks out solutions that benefit those he serves.”
Stephen joined the COPH full-time in 2021. He said he values the opportunity to help shape the the futures of public health professionals through his work.
“The MHA degree here at UNMC is a robust program that is focused on preparing students for the challenges of health administration and, for me, being a part of that opportunity to help shape the future of health professionals is huge. For the faculty and leadership, all of us focused on advancing the MHA program play a key part, and I’m just one of the pieces.”
