After nearly 12 years, Liane Connelly, PhD, will step down as assistant dean of the UNMC College of Nursing Northern Division on Jan. 1 to take on a new role as coordinator of the nurse leader/executive program.
“Periodically it is good for an organization’s leadership to change,” Dr. Connelly said. “This change comes at a good time for me personally. I truly enjoy the team I’ve worked with in the Northern Division over these past 11-and-a-half years, yet I am eager to take on a new challenge.”
In her new role, Dr. Connelly will work with faculty and students in the MSN, DNP and PhD programs across the college, contributing to program improvement as well as the development and submission of grants and educational research endeavors.
It’s an opportunity that excites her, she said.
“During this time of health care complexity and societal change, we need more leaders, not less. I would like to grow the nurse executive program so that we help students become the most prepared they can be to serve our profession and society as nurse leaders.”
Dr. Connelly and her husband are in the middle of a new home construction north of Lincoln, and they plan to move there in the spring.
“This move will enable us to be closer to our four grandkids, our children and their spouses, as well as my in-laws,’ she said. “I am excited for this transition!”
