NHS shared drive to be decommissioned Jan. 31

If a team or department ever had files stored digitally on the NHS shared drive, now is the time to relocate them.

Effective Tuesday, Jan. 31, data stored on the NHS shared drive will be moving to read-only status. To continue to access and update files on this drive, the user will need to move content to a more secure location.

Beginning in June 2021, Nebraska Medicine and UNMC began moving files from on-premises locations to cloud-based storage solutions. As part of this process, it was identified that the NHS shared drive is not secure. Users are encouraged to move their data to a cloud-based location, such as One Drive (for personal items), SharePoint or Teams.

This is part of a larger organizational initiative to decommission department file shares across Nebraska Medicine and UMMC. The file-share migration project is underway with Nebraska Medicine and UNMC departments.

Nebraska Medicine and UNMC teams and departments can ensure they are adequately prepared for this project work by beginning to inventory the department file shares, such as R: drives or O: drives.

For teams with data on the NHS shared drive that do not have a SharePoint or Teams site and need to create one, please submit a Service Now request for assistance.

SharePoint and Teams are cloud-based storage solutions by Microsoft that are best used for storing shared files that may require a high level of collaboration or cross-team access. Accessing files via SharePoint or Teams can be done anywhere, anytime and does not require the use of Global Protect.

Questions or inquiries regarding the file-share migration project can be directed to the file share migration email account.

This is creating so many problems for the academic side. What’s next, we have to put everything on a jump drive and walk it to the next person?
