Gomez leads enrollment management improvements

Jonathan Gomez

Jonathan Gomez, the new university registrar in the UNMC Office of Academic Records, was excited to hit the ground running and use his years of experience in enrollment management to advocate for students pursuing biomedical and health sciences careers.

“You need someone that’s willing to understand and work together with all colleges, which have their own unique priorities, to create a culture of best practice in enrollment management,” he said. “Our office collaborates with all college leaders to enable student success.”

Gomez holds a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and a Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University. He currently is pursuing his Doctorate of Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As university registrar, Gomez is responsible for maintaining and securing student records across all colleges as well as implementing academic policies and procedures.

During his time as university registrar, Gomez hopes to continue efforts to modernize and automate standard services to improve and simplify processes such as enrolling for classes and completing and submitting forms.

“I would like for my work and my team’s work to show that we have improved the quality of service, but we’re also being more visible and transparent to students,” he said. As they work to simplify policies and procedures across all colleges, he said he hopes students see them as advocates.

Gomez previously held positions as associate registrar at Georgetown University and registrar at Rutgers School of Health Professions. He said he is excited to continue his career supporting biomedical and health professions students at UNMC and assisting with the occasionally complex needs of all our students.

“Students can stop by and say hello and contact us with any questions, comments or concerns,” he said. “We are really trying to make sure that everyone on campus understands that we hear them, and we want to address all of the concerns they have regarding their experience on campus.

“We’re part of a wider mission under UNMC Student Services, so we understand their experiences with us are a part of their ability to succeed while at UNMC.”

Students can contact the UNMC Office of Academic Records by email or phone (402-559-4199) or visit the office online to learn more about services available to students.
