The UNMC community is invited to a campus celebration Thursday, Dec. 8, to help kick off the University of Nebraska’s Only In Nebraska fundraising campaign.
Hosted by the UNMC Alumni Association and UNMC Strategic Communications, the UNMC rally will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wigton Heritage Center atrium on the Omaha campus. Lunches from Jones Brothers, including mini cupcakes, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The rally, which takes place during UNMC’s De-Stress Week, will build awareness of the campaign and enable students, staff and faculty to be engaged and impact institutional priorities. UNMC students are encouraged to attend and participate in several activities.
Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Share a note of thanks – Write a thank you note to donors to show your appreciation and share what you love about UNMC. All participants will be entered into a drawing to win $50 toward the UNMC cafeteria.
- Make an impact – Vote to help direct an anonymous donor’s gift into one of three key campaign priorities: student access and success, enhancement of faculty and academic excellence or transformational research discovery and innovation.
- Participate in the donor wall discovery challenge – Find a donor plaque/wall on campus and take a selfie with it. Send the photo to UNMC Alumni Association and be entered into a second drawing to win $50 toward the UNMC cafeteria. This challenge will run from De-Stress Week through Dec. 16.
Beginning at 12:15 p.m., attendees will see a campaign video and hear brief program remarks from UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, UNMC campaign chair Jim Linder, MD, and others.
Details about rally events on the other UNMC campuses will be shared in further campus-specific communications.

More than half the campaign goal — $1.6 billion — already has been given or pledged toward the campaign from more than 112,000 benefactors. The campaign began in a quiet phase in 2018 and was made public Nov. 18. More information is available at the Only In Nebraska website.
