Reminder: Breakthrough Thinking series starts today

UNMC will kick off this season’s Breakthrough Thinking Conference Series Tuesday, Nov. 29, with online presentations focused on creating the nursing workforce needed in a post-pandemic era.

The annual series, open to all UNMC faculty, staff and students, is designed to challenge and inspire out-of-the-box thinking.

The online event will feature two speakers from noon to 1 p.m. CT:

  • UNMC’s Juliann Sebastian, PhD, who will provide her reflections on the nursing workforce as dean of the UNMC College of Nursing. Dr. Sebastian will retire in 2023, and a search is underway for her successor.
  • Peter Buerhaus, PhD, a nurse and health care economist known for his studies and publications focused on the nursing and physician workforces in the United States. Dr. Buerhaus is a professor of nursing and director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Workforce Studies at Montana State University’s College of Nursing. He will discuss “Creating the Nursing Workforce Needed to Address the Post-Pandemic Health Needs of Society, Employers and Nurses.”
