Welcome to the fall issue of Graduate Posts.
I want to personally welcome all our new and existing graduate students to UNMC. The first semester is almost halfway over, and it has been wonderful to see everyone settled on campus.
This year is especially noteworthy as it is the 80th anniversary of Graduate Studies. We are planning several events in honor of this milestone and have recently launched an exhibit within the Wigton Heritage Center that details our history of training the next generation of health care professionals. Additionally, the new leadership of the Graduate Student Association has planned many opportunities for students to get involved.
Not only that, fall enrollment for 2022 was more than 630 students, the largest number in the history of Graduate Studies and an increase of 12% over 2021. I was thrilled to welcome many of the new students during the matriculation ceremony in August. Our students will have access to the newly renovated Graduate Studies office and other student services in Williams Science Hall (be sure to watch a video tour hosted by Karen Gould, PhD).
This year, Graduate Studies is working on new strategic initiatives, including enhancing the diversity of our students. I look forward to telling you more about this and several other initiatives in the coming months of this very special year.
I hope you enjoy reading these stories and more in this issue.
