UNMC leaders will hold an online forum Thursday, Oct. 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. to show support for UNMC’s students and colleagues from Iran.
Protests continue in the country following the death of an Iranian woman, Mahsa Amini, in government custody. As the protests turn into an anti-government movement, the Iranian government has violently cracked down.
The event will be held via Zoom.
Campus officials will show support for any concerned UNMC colleagues and offer support resources available to them through the university.
Steven Wengel, MD, psychiatry professor and assistant vice chancellor for campus wellness, will lead the discussion. He will discuss wellness strategies and offer a period for open discussion.
Others involved will include:
- Dele Davies, MD, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs;
- Jane Meza, PhD, associate vice chancellor of the UNMC Office of Global Engagement;
- Sheritta Strong, MD, assistant vice chancellor for inclusion;
- Maureen O’Donnell of UNMC’s Employee Assistance Program and Arbor Family Counseling;
- Jeff Knapp, associate director of UNMC Counseling and Psychological Services; and
- Philip Covington, EdD, associate vice chancellor for student success.
