Registration is open for the 2022 Biomedical Research and Healthcare Informatics Conference, taking place Oct. 17-18. The event is a collaborative effort between the Great Plains IDeA-CTR 6th Annual Scientific Meeting, the UNMC Center for Intelligent Healthcare and the UNMC College of Medicine Research Retreat.
Registration for the hybrid event is free and open to the public. The conference, held at UNMC’s Truhlsen Events Center, is open to all UNMC faculty, staff and students interested in translational research, as well as outside partners.
The event will feature:
- A keynote presentation from Robert Califf, MD, commissioner of food and drugs, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, on “The FDA in the Era of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Precision Medicine: The Challenges and Opportunities Ahead.”
- Presentations on health informatics, including “The Challenges of Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Safety,” “Using AI to Support Adaptive Decision Support” and “AI and Causality.”
- Lightning-round presentations from AI and informatics faculty.
- Great Plains IDeA-CTR pilot awardee presentations.
- A keynote presentation from Bradley Malin, PhD, Accenture Professor of Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics and Computer Science, Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
- UNMC faculty presentations.
The event again will feature the CTR Superstar competition. The goal of this competition is to raise awareness of clinical and translational research conducted by promising scholars who are developing innovative tools and methods for medical research. The winning investigator or team will receive a $20,000 pilot grant award to catalyze cutting-edge research that could translate to a sustainable product or a larger federal grant. Contenders will present their work to a panel of experts.
The Annual Scientific Meeting brings together scientific investigators, spanning basic, translational and clinical work, university or collegiate educators, administrators, health care professionals, public health experts and more.
