Sowmya Yelamanchili, PhD, anesthesiology, received a grant of $549,390 from DHHS/NIH/NIDA for her study “Cerebral organoid and IPSC derived microglia: Modeling of HIV and methamphetamine co-morbidity.”

Moorthy Ponnusamy, PhD, biochemistry and molecular biology, received a grant of $546,921 from DHHS/NIH/NCI to study truncated O-glycan-dependent mechanisms inducing metastatic dissemination in pancreatic cancer.

Carol Geary, PhD, pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $518,000 from the University of Missouri-Columbia for optimizing infrastructure for conducting patient-centered outcomes research: PCORnet, The National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network.

Pooneh Bagher, PhD, cellular and integrative physiology, received a grant of $493,083 from DHHS/NIH/NHLBI to study the role of hemoglobin alpha in diabetes-related vascular dysfunction.

Nicole Shonka, MD, internal medicine-oncology/hematology, received a grant of $445,918 from the DHHS/NIH/NCI to study connectivity mapping identified novel combination therapy for glioblastoma.

Jana Broadhurst, MD, PhD, pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $419,642 from Rush University Medical Center for “Impact of COVID-19 on AD occurrence: A biracial intergenerational population study.”

Jordan Rowley, PhD, genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $383,750 from DHHS/NIH/NCI to study fine-scale genome folding relative to transcription and location.

Gargi Ghosal, PhD, genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $351,131 from DHHS/NIH/NCI to study mechanisms underlying USP1 mediated bypass of EWS-FLI1 oncogene-induced senescence in Ewing sarcoma.

Leah Cook, PhD, pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $351,131 from DHHS/HIN/NCI for leveraging PMN immune response to overcome ADT resistance in bone metastatic prostate cancer.

Diana Florescu, MD, internal medicine-infectious diseases, received a grant of $313,052 from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center for a study to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of a SARS-CoV-2 recombinant spike protein nanoparticle vaccine (SARS-CoV-2 rS) with Matrix-M1\x1a adjuvant in adult participants 18 years with a pediatric expansion in adolescents.

Marilynn Larson, PhD, pathology and microbiology, received a grant of $277,860 from the U.S. Department of Defense to study epidemiologic and molecular characterization of Francisella tularensis in the countries of Black Sea region (Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine).

Surinder Batra, PhD, biochemistry and molecular biology, received a grant of $252,960 from the University of California-San Diego Moores Cancer Center for a study of molecular imaging probe(s) for optical surgical navigation of pancreatic cancer.

Santhi Gorantla, PhD, pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $186,503 from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for a study on metabolic strategies to eliminate CNS myeloid viral reservoirs.

Imay Lakshmanan, PhD, biochemistry and molecular biology, received a grant of $177,702 from DHHA/NIH/NCI to study ST6GalNAc-I/MUC5AC promoting angiogenesis in lung adenocarcinoma.

Howard Gendelman, MD, pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $69,023 from the Allen Institute to study single cell transcriptomic and epigenomic changes during chronic HIV infection and cocaine self-administration.

Peng Zhong, PhD, neurological sciences, received a grant of $66,680 from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation to study dysfunction of sleep-control circuits in depression.

Ted Mikuls, MD, internal medicine-rheumatology, received a grant of $44,039 from Brigham & Women’s Hospital for bridging clinical trial and real-world data via machine learning to advance rheumatoid arthritis treatment strategies.

Hani Haider, PhD, orthopaedic surgery, received funding for characterization of UHMWPE wear against CoCr metal and ceramic femoral hip components and impingement testing of dual mobility total hip replacement components.

Scott Westphal, MD, internal medicine-nephrology, received a grant of $38,250 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison for APOLLO-Upper Midwest.

Jennifer Merickel, PhD, neurological sciences, received a grant of $23,650 from Iowa State University for a quantitative assessment of driving capabilities of senior drivers.

Daniel Murman, MD, neurological sciences, received a grant of $22,321 from the University of Southern California for an anti-amyloid treatment in asymptomatic Alzheimer disease open label extension study.

Justin Mott, MD, PhD, biochemistry and molecular biology, received a grant from the Nebraska Bankers Association Equipment Grants/U.N. Foundation to study the fluigent smart microfluidics flow controller.
