Members of Leadership Nebraska toured UNMC on Sept 15, meeting with UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and visiting the iEXCEL program at the Davis Global Center.
A program of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Nebraska builds a sense of statewide community by identifying and training individuals with a commitment to become personally engaged in issues, programs and activities aimed at better serving Nebraskans.
About 30 members of the group attended the visit, including Nebraska State Sen. John Lowe, who represents District 37. Although he has been to the medical center before, Sen. Lowe said there is always more to learn about UNMC.
“You should never stop learning,” he said. “Each and every time I come here, I learn something new.”
He said he was interested to hear Dr. Gold talk about rural health issues, a matter of concern to his constituents in District 37, which includes Kearney and areas to west of the city in Buffalo County.
Dr. Gold said he was pleased to speak to the group.
“It’s always good to have an opportunity to provide them with an update on what the med center is doing, to be sure they understand the value, not just in our traditional roles of education, research and critical care, but also how important we are from an economic development perspective.”
Dr. Gold said he also discussed Project NExT, “which is exciting and also inspires them to want to be part of that future. I was pleased by the size of the group and how engaged they were in the conversation.”
