The UNMC research community is invited to join the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research for a webinar today (Aug. 23), from noon to 1 p.m. regarding upcoming data management and sharing policy updates from the National Institutes of Health.
Register for the webinar here. A confirmation email that includes the Zoom details will be sent to registrants.
Jennifer Larsen, MD, UNMC's vice chancellor for research, will lead the presentation along with other UNMC research leaders as panelists.
The NIH announced a new policy on data management and sharing that will be effective Jan. 25, 2023. This will require all NIH-funded researchers to prospectively submit a plan outlining how scientific data from their research will be managed and shared, either in an NIH-established repository or another third-party, public-access repository depending on the nature of the data. NIH has established a data sharing website, which outlines many resources and details of the plan.
To prepare for this change, the VCR Office will conduct this webinar to discuss the policy as it has been defined to date, and additional UNMC resources will be made available to investigators to develop their data management and sharing plans over the next several months. The McGoogan Library will be actively partnering with the VCR Office, particularly Sponsored Programs Administration, the IRB, the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Core, the Research IT Office and the College of Medicine to disseminate these materials to the broader community.
Bring any questions or concerns to the webinar as there still are active discussions with NIH on what will be required to meet this deadline. A recording of the webinar will be made available after the event.
