New faculty spotlight: Sydney Blount, MD

Sydney Blount, MD, is a new faculty member at UNMC.

  • Hometown: Liberty, Nebraska
  • Current position: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism physician, Nebraska Medicine.

Previous positions:

  • Medical school, UNMC
  • Residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • Fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism at Washington University in St. Louis

Professional and medical interests: I am interested in patient outreach and providing subspecialty endocrine care to rural patients, focusing my clinics on telehealth. Management of pituitary tumors and endocrine care after transsphenoidal surgery also are interests of mine.

How did you fall in love with medicine: During medical school, I became fascinated with the science and intricate feedback loops of endocrine disorders. Now, I enjoy being able to explain the complex physiology to patients to help them better understand their diagnosis and treatment.

  • I went great white shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa.
  • I graduated high school in a class of 12.
  • I am a North Carolina Tarheels basketball fan.
