Farewell reception set for Dean Emily McElroy

A farewell reception will be held from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 16 for Emily McElroy, dean of the McGoogan Health Sciences Library.

Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, is scheduled to speak on video at the event, which will be held in the Olson Atrium in the Wigton Heritage Center on the UNMC Omaha campus.

Other scheduled speakers, live or on video, will include:

  • Dele Davies, MD, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs;
  • Emily Glenn, who will become interim dean of the McGoogan Library;
  • Sarah Gloden Carlson, JD, chief compliance officer, interim assistant vice chancellor of human resources;
  • Janet Guthmiller, DDS, PhD, dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry; and
  • Ali Khan, MD, MPH, dean of the UNMC College of Public Health.

Remarks will start at 2:15 p.m.

McElroy will leave her position on Sept. 1 to become associate dean of research and health sciences at the University of Florida’s George A. Smathers Libraries. Effective Sep. 2, Emily Glenn will assume the role of interim dean of the library.

In her nine years at UNMC, McElroy — the first leader of the library to receive the title of dean — led many initiatives, including the opening of the Wigton Heritage Center. Read more here.
