The Nebraska Medicine pharmacy has received its first shipment of the Novavax vaccine for COVID-19, which was recently authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Patients now can receive the vaccine on a walk-in basis at one of the following locations:
- Pharmacy at Lauritzen Outpatient Center, 4014 Leavenworth St. in Omaha
- University Health Center at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 550 N. 19th St. in Lincoln
“We felt it was important to have the Novavax vaccine as an option for patients and colleagues who haven’t been vaccinated yet and are interested in a more traditional vaccine,” said Sarah Kuhl, director of community based services pharmacy.
“We don’t expect a large demand since Novavax is only approved to be given as a primary series to people who have not received any other COVID-19 vaccines, but we will be monitoring how many vaccines are given and if there is a need for additional access, especially if the emergency use authorization expands in the future.”
More information on the Novavax vaccine, including how it works and results from its clinical trial, is available via Nebraska Medicine.
Other options for COVID-19 vaccination, including primary and booster doses at Nebraska Medicine's pharmacy and health center locations are available at Nebraska Medicine online.
