My professional journey: After I graduated from dental school, I worked in a multi-specialty private practice in Sao Paulo until I relocated to Connecticut. At the University of Connecticut, I completed an advanced education in general dentistry residency/ fellowship program and then joined the faculty. Years later I relocated to Chicago where I worked in private practice and at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. A few years later my family and I had a great opportunity to move to Colorado. I was an associate professor in the restorative department at the University of Colorado for ten years before I relocated to Lincoln.

How I fell in love with dentistry: My interest in dentistry started as a young child. I was always very curious and enjoyed going to the dentist. Despite needing some fillings, I was very interested in seeing the materials used to restore a tooth. As a teenager, I needed orthodontic treatment and at that time I knew that I wanted to be a dentist.

The accomplishment I am most proud of: Graduating from the University of Connecticut AEGD residency/fellowship program and pursuing a career in dental education.

Hometown: I grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil and moved to the United States 24 years ago.

My family: We are always looking for ways to have fun together. My husband and I have a son that is very active in sports. We enjoy exercising, playing golf, skiing, traveling and spending time together at home.

My favorite thing to do on a day off: Spend time with my family.

Three things people may not know about me:

  • Although I grew up in a huge city, I like to live in smaller cities.
  • I am a vegetarian.
  • I don’t drink coffee.

What I’m most looking forward to about working at the college: Working with the very skilled group of faculty members, and the college’s small class sizes which will allow me to teach in a more personalized way.
