Summer undergraduate students to present research

A student in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program presents her research poster at the 2021 SURP poster symposium.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Program will hold its annual poster symposium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Truhlsen Events Center on the UNMC campus. The med center community is invited to meet the SURP students and view their poster presentations.

This event is the culmination of a 10-week, full-time research program for undergraduates. SURP is a collaboration between UNMC departments, institutes, colleges and graduate specialty areas and is designed to allow undergraduate students to become members of research teams and discover firsthand the broad spectrum of research activities occurring at UNMC.

"SURP is a great opportunity for students across the country to immerse themselves in ten weeks of biomedical, clinical and community research at a major, state-of-the-art research university in the heartland," said Channing Bunch, program director. "This research experience instructs aspiring medical students in why research is so important to our communities."

In addition to being mentored by faculty, SURP students attend weekly seminars provided by UNMC researchers to enhance their knowledge about research careers and the variety of research at UNMC. The laboratory experiences obtained by SURP students enhance their competitiveness for later admission to graduate programs at UNMC.
