COM employee of the month

UNMC College of Medicine employees of the month are nominated by college leaders. Ashley Servais was nominated by Ann Anderson Berry, MD, PhD, who said she "does a phenomenal job running the Pediatric Research Office and has improved so many systems over the last two years. Her team is amazing, professional and highly productive, particularly doing research during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Name: Ashley Servais

Title: Senior research manager

Hometown: Omaha

Talk about your job and what you like best about it:

I have been with the Child Health Research Institute since it stood up in 2017. Prior to that I worked in the Sponsored Programs office here at UNMC. In short, my role is to keep our daily research operations running smoothly. My favorite part of this job is getting to work with so many motivated basic science and clinical researchers on a wide variety of projects, all focused on improving child health. We also have a tremendous staff at CHRI who are very passionate about the work they do, which I find very inspiring.

List three things people may not know about you:

I was born and raised in Omaha but spent a decade living in Boston, which is where my research management career started.

  • I have two pandemic babies. My husband and I had our first daughter in April 2020 and our second in April 2022. It’s been an adventure!
  • My go-to "fun fact" is that I rode my bike from Providence, Rhode Island, to Seattle, Washington, in 2008 with the non-profit Bike & Build. (Anything to avoid a summer job in college!)
