Services today, Friday for med center’s Mike Powell

Mike Powell, who formerly served as associate dean for pharmacy practice at the UNMC College of Pharmacy and executive director of pharmacy services at Nebraska Medicine, died July 8.

Powell, 72, worked for Nebraska Medicine for 18 years.

"His time at Nebraska Medicine was marked with many significant changes," said Lori Murante, PharmD, director of pharmacy at Nebraska Medicine.

These included expanding the pharmacy residency program, partnering with nursing to establish the joint medication safety program and recognizing the potential for the addition of a specialty pharmacy.

"Our lives and our profession are richer for having known Mike," Dr. Murante said. "He was blessed with a capacity for making everyone feel like they were family. He will be missed."

"Mike was a staple of the pharmacy department and helped lay the foundation for the important role pharmacy plays in patient care at Nebraska Medicine today," said Sarah Kuhl-Padgett, PharmD, director of community-based pharmacy at Nebraska Medicine. "I know my career would not be the same without him."

"Mike was kind, caring, and a sincere soul with a heart of gold," said Dana Price, Nebraska Medicine pharmacy programs and accreditation coordinator, community-based pharmacy, who worked with Powell for many years. "He left us much too soon and will be truly missed."
