UNMC community to join Heartland Pride parade

Members of the UNMC community will be participating in Heartland Pride events in July, including the parade and expo on July 16.

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine will have a team walking in the parade. There’s no official signup to participate. There will be a pre-parade gathering at the Nebraska Medicine Old Market Health Center, 1319 Leavenworth St., at 9 a.m. Marchers will walk as a group to the line-up location.

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine colleagues who would like to volunteer to staff one of the booths at Youth Pride/Pride expo events on July 15 and 16 can sign up by emailing the UNMC LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance. Everyone is welcome to show up at the Old Market Health Center at 7 a.m. to help decorate the parade float.

Many participants will be wearing this year’s Pride shirt, which is available for purchase at the UNMC Bookstore. But participants are welcome to wear any red Nebraska Medicine/UNMC shirt they have. There may be a limited number of free shirts available at the event.

The Pride expo on July 16 is at CHI Health Center Arena, begins at 12:30 p.m. and has a clear bag policy.

Is it ok to wear non-NMC pride shirts?

  2. Jeff Robb / UNMC Today says:

The recommended alternate is any red Nebraska Medicine/UNMC shirt they have or the med center pride shirt from last year, if that's an option.
