Dele Davies, MD, honored for international impact

Dele Davies, MD, UNMC’s senior vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean for graduate studies, is being honored by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto with its Lifetime Achievement-International Impact Award. Dr. Davies graduated with his medical degree from the university in 1985.

The faculty noted that Dr. Davies is recognized worldwide as an expert and advocate in pediatric infectious diseases, has served on the American Academy of Pediatrics’ "Red Book" — the major reference on communicable disease practice worldwide — and on many national expert advisory committees, including the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services’ National Biodefense Safety Board.

"Through his research, Dr. Davies has contributed substantially to the prevention and diagnosis of neonatal sepsis in both North America and Africa, and to the identification of virulence factors important for the development of group B streptococcal vaccines," the faculty said. "He has traveled to more than two dozen countries where he has served on medical missions, promoted the health of children, given presentations on infectious diseases and built partnerships, all while maintaining an active clinical service."
