Scientists from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will discuss preliminary results of various environmental studies they are conducting in the area around the former AltEn Plant near Mead.
The public is invited to the meeting which will be held June 16, at 7 p.m. in the Mead Firehall, 220 E. 4th St.
The preliminary studies by UNMC, UNL and Creighton University researchers include air, water and soil sampling; vegetation and wildlife sampling; and a survey of Mead-area residents. The studies, which are not yet complete, will assess and evaluate the chemicals contained in the residue and the wastewater produced by the plant, and determine the potential health effects of those products.
