The Dr. Pamela Carmines Symposium on Renal Physiology will be held on June 10 at 2 p.m. in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.
The event, which will feature speakers from UNMC, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Alabama-Birmingham and other institutions, is intended as a tribute to Pamela Carmines, PhD, who retired from her UNMC roles in the department of cellular and integrative physiology and graduate studies in May.
Dr. Carmines said she personally selected the slate of speakers at the invitation of Merry Lindsey, PhD, Stokes-Shackelford Chair of the UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology. The department, the UNMC College of Medicine Dean’s office and UNMC Graduate Studies are supporting the June 10 event to honor Dr. Carmines’ career.
"Our speakers – who include guests such as Jen Pluznick, PhD, Jane Reckelhoff, PhD, and Edward Inscho, PhD — are the big names in renal physiology," Dr. Lindsey said. "It speaks to Dr. Carmines’ stature in the field that so many respected names were eager to take part in this event."
Dr. Carmines said she was stunned when Dr. Lindsey approached her about the symposium.
"This is a wonderful tribute," she said. "I’m actually expecting a cross between a symposium and a roast."
