Name: Elisabeth Tracey, MD

Medical school attended/year graduated: UNMC, 2017

Residency/fellowship at UNMC: General surgery residency

Program director: Tiffany Tanner, MD

How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC?  General surgery is five years long; I am in my final year of residency. I've been at UNMC for nine years total, including med school.

What do you like the most about your training program? Spending time with my co-chiefs who have gone through the same training experiences as me. They have been a significant source of support, especially in the last year.

What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future? I think having adequate exposure to the breadth of surgical experiences while also having the repetition needed to feel comfortable in a given area will continue to be a challenge given finite amount of time in training.

List some accomplishments that you are proud of:

  • Finishing general surgery residency.
  • Passing the French DALF, a national oral and written exam.

Tell us three things about you that others may not know:

  • I taught English at a high school in Besançon, France, before starting med school.
  • My favorite sport is horseback riding, and I did hunter/jumpers through high school.
  • If I hadn’t gone to med school, I would have joined the state department or opened a bakery.
