COM employee of the month

Jaclyn (Jackie) Ostronic

College of Medicine employees of the month are nominated by college leaders. Jackie Ostronic was nominated by Ann Anderson Berry, MD, PhD, who said Ostronic "works tirelessly to ensure that our programing is top of the line, that our scientific meetings are productive and that our investigators make meaningful connections."

  • Name: Jaclyn (Jackie) Ostronic
  • Title:  Project manager, Child Health Research Institute and the UNMC Department of Pediatrics
  • Hometown: Omaha

Talk about your job and what you like best about it: I am privileged to support CHRI and the UNMC Department of Pediatrics in a wide variety of projects that relate to marketing and communications, policies and procedures, events, human resources and compliance, education and research support. I enjoy that my work is always changing, diverse in nature and that I get the opportunity to work with almost everyone in the institute and department.

As CHRI is in an incredible stage of growth, I work closely with leadership and its investigator members to create the infrastructure and benefits to make the institute a valuable resource for its stakeholders. Some recent projects include launching our areas of emphasis and planning mini research summits to build collaborative networks and creating a CHRI grant database and progress reporting procedure to better track the impact of our internal grants. For the UNMC Department of Pediatrics, I like supporting the large faculty base and staff teams to find ways to improve processes or launch new initiatives.

List three things people may not know about you:

  • We are a bilingual household. My husband and I met in Spain, and we are raising our two children to speak both English and Spanish. We speak a lot of Spanglish!
  • I dislike driving and wish Omaha had more extensive public transportation (oh, how many books I would read!).
  • I enjoy writing and hope to write a novel someday. I’m thinking it will be magical realism, which is one of my favorite genres.
