Nurses honored during Nightingale Ceremony

Five nurses who passed away during the 2021-22 academic year were honored by the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard.

During the Annual Meeting on May 11, the UNMC College of Nursing honored five nurses who passed away during the 2021-2022 academic year with a Nightingale Ceremony.

The nurses honored were: 

  • Kate Nickel, PhD – died Aug. 24, 2021; 
  • Mara Baun, DNSc – died March 14, 2022; 
  • Mary Andersen – died Feb. 3, 2022; 
  • Nancy Farris – died March 10, 2022; and 
  • Michelle Ellermeier – died Feb. 27, 2022.

During the Nightingale Ceremony, 10 members of the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard, led by president and founder Deb Zobel, were present to honor these nurses. The Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard consists of active and retired nurses who volunteer their time to provide dignity and respect to their fellow nurses.
