Beginning in June, floating holiday accrual balances will be capped at 40 hours.
Currently, floating holidays are capped so that not more than 32 hours of deferred floating holiday balance may be accrued. Floating holiday leave balances exceeding 32 hours are adjusted to reflect a balance of 32 hours.
Effective June 2022, that limit will grow by eight hours. Floating holidays will be capped so that not more than 40 hours of deferred floating holiday balance may be accrued. Floating holiday leave balances exceeding 40 hours will be adjusted to reflect a balance of 40 hours.
The Juneteenth Holiday was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, and it is now a floating holiday at the University of Nebraska, making the University of Nebraska’s current floating holidays:
1. Presidents Day (third Monday in February),
2. Arbor Day (last Friday in April),
3. Juneteenth (June 19)
4. Columbus Day (second Monday in October)
5. Veterans Day (November 11).
Because university classes and offices are operational and staffed on these days, employees will take alternate holiday time off.
