Nebraska Medicine cafes honor fallen military members

Sabrina Dovenbarger, human resource support specialist for Sodexo, organized the "missing man" tribute as part of Military Appreciation Month.

The cafes at Nebraska Medical Center this month will feature a moving tribute to fallen members of the military. Sabrina Dovenbarger, human resource support specialist for Sodexo, organized the "missing man" tribute as part of Military Appreciation Month.

For Dovenbarger, it is personal.

"My husband served 24 years in the National Guard," she said. "He did three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and has lost friends – people he thought of as family. I have attended funerals for people I did not know, hugged and cried with family members because my husband could not be there to do it himself. Honoring my husband, his service and the service of our military families is a passion of mine."

Sodexo employees are displaying missing man tables in hospital cafeterias across the country.

"The men and women who have given their lives should be respected and honored," Dovenbarger said.
