The Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Jacqueline Hankins-Berry has been invited to participate as an inclusion coach by the Association of University Centers on Disabilities.
Hankins-Berry’s term will last through Sept. 29.
As an inclusion coach, Hankins-Berry — who also is co-chair of the MMI inclusion committee — may be asked to:
- Provide individualized coaching to AUCD network members including sharing relevant resources, facilitating conversations, and reviewing materials.
- Respond to rapid response requests from network members related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Support the implementation of the AUCD’s inclusion initiatives, including presenting at webinars and supporting content of the implementation groups.
The AUCD is a membership organization that supports and promotes a national network of university-based interdisciplinary programs. (See sidebar.)
Hankins-Berry said she recognizes that the appointment provides an opportunity to make a difference in the disability community.
"I hope to make an impact by helping organizations emphasizing nonjudgment, self-awareness, and communication to help advance diversity, equity and inclusion," she said.
Melonie Welsh, director of community engagement at MMI, said Hankins-Berry’s work as the co-chair of MMI’s diversity, equity and inclusion council and in other DEI initiatives throughout UNMC – as well as her selection as the inaugural UNMC Unsung Hero Awardee – speak to her passion and work ethic.
"Jackie has been at the forefront of MMI’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and she will be an invaluable asset to this AUCD initiative," Welsh said. "She already is making a difference, and this role gives her an opportunity to continue to do so on a national level."
