Pediatrics holding conference on diversity in research

The UNMC Department of Pediatrics’ anti-racism committee will hold its second annual diversity, equity and inclusion conference on May 27 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The theme of this year’s event is “Diversity in Research,” and Dr. Tukufu Zuberi, the Lasry Family Professor of Race Relations and professor of sociology and African studies at the University of Pennsylvania, will deliver the keynote speech.

Dr. Zuberi is the author of the book “White Logic, White Methods: Racism and Methodology,” a collection of essays on the ways in which racist considerations are infused in the manners in which much social science is conducted.

The DEI conference will take place virtually over Zoom.

The conference will include a panel discussion of the event theme and updates from the antiracism committee and other groups organized around amplifying marginalized voices. It will have breakout sessions in which attendees can join talks on topics such as decolonizing global health, data sovereignty and bioethics.
