Good dogs, tasty treats and more for De-Stress Week

UNMC students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in UNMC's De-Stress Week celebration, which runs all next week. De-Stress Week will include snacks, a campus walk, tie-dye and more.

The following is a list of De-Stress Week events on the Omaha campus:

Monday, April 25:

  • Donut Stress, 7:30 a.m., Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons, second floor — Stop by and grab a pre-packaged donut and juice (while supplies last).
  • Paws to de-stress, 3 p.m., UNMC Facebook: Visit UNMC's Facebook page and meet some of the adorable pets that belong to UNMC faculty, staff and students.

Tuesday, April 26:

  • Student snack break, 10 a.m., McGoogan Health Sciences Library, sixth floor by the AskUs desk — The McGoogan Health Sciences Library staff will provide healthy snacks for students, so take a quick study break and grab a snack (while supplies last). In the library, please enjoy your snack in the study room only.
  • UNMC tie-dye T-shirts, 12:30 p.m., Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza green space — Stop by and make your very own UNMC tie-dye T-shirt (while supplies last). In case of rain, this activity will be moved into the Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons, second floor.

Wednesday, April 27:

  • Breakfast on the go, 7:30 a.m., DRC II, Commons Area — Start the morning off with a free muffin and juice while supplies last (items individually packaged).
  • Campus walk and lunch to go, noon, UNMC Ice Rink — Join fitness specialist Peter Pellerito for a fun, one-mile socially distanced walk around campus. A sack lunch to go will be provided to the first 20 participants. In case of rain, the walk will be moved to the Center for Healthy Living with a maximum of 20 participants allowed inside.

Thursday, April 28:

  • MavPantry food drive, Davis Global Center cutout (north side of building) 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Bring a donation of five or more items for the Maverick Food Pantry, and donors will receive a free UNMC hat (while supplies last). Those without a car can still donate by walking up their donation. For a list of preferred donations, click here.
  • Root beer floats, Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza green space 1:30 p.m. — Stop by and grab a root beer float (while supplies last). This event is sponsored by the UNMC Office of Community Engagement. In case of rain, this event will be moved into the Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons, second floor.

Friday, April 29:

  • Paws for Friendship, 11 a.m., Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza green space and the Durham Research Center green space — Volunteers from Paws for Friendship, a local pet therapy organization, will be on campus to help students, faculty and staff de-stress. The event is sponsored by the McGoogan Health Sciences Library.
  • Food trucks for students, 11 a.m., Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza green space and the Durham Research Center green space — Students are encouraged to stop by and take part in the food trucks on campus. Street Eats, sponsored by the UNMC Student Senate, will be located in the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza green space, and Zemogs, sponsored by the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, will be located near the Durham Research Center. Faculty and staff may purchase food from either food truck. Corndog Company is the regular food truck on Fridays near the Scott Student Plaza with food for purchase.

De-Stress Week is sponsored by the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications, the Office of Student Life, Diversity and Inclusion (SLIDO) and Campus Wellness.

Students at UNMC locations in Kearney, Norfolk, Scottsbluff and Lincoln should contact their administration for individual campus plans.
