IAE starts new health sciences education journal

The UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators has launched a new journal called the Innovations in Health Sciences Education Journal.

The journal has published its first article (Volume 1: Issue 1 , Article 1), "Building a Robust E-Learning Module Scorecard: The Nebraska E-Learning Scorecard (NEscore)."

The publication is a free online, open-access, peer-reviewed journal. It is available through Digital Commons.

For the last year, the academy has worked with the McGoogan Health Sciences Library to plan the journal. The goal is to give educators a place to share their innovations in the field of medical and health professions education, then use journal publication as a springboard for their next study.

The journal editor is Elizabeth Beam, PhD, assistant professor at the UNMC College of Nursing. The co-editor is Michelle Howell Smith, PhD, education researcher with the Interprofessional Academy of Educators.

The editorial board includes: Keely Cassidy, PhD, assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy; Teresa Hartman, professor with the McGoogan Library; Teresa Barry Hultquist, PhD, associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing; Nancy Kelley, PhD, professor in the Grace Abbott School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha; Nancy Krusen, PhD, associate professor in the UNMC Division of Occupational Therapy Education; Travis McCumber, PhD, assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy; Peggy Moore, director of e-learning and assistant professor in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions; and Jana Wardian, PhD, assistant professor in the UNMC Division of Hospital Medicine.

Reviewers are: Jami Monico, instructional technologist with the UNMC Office of Medical Education, and Sarah McBrien, PhD, assistant professor in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions.

The journal is recruiting interested reviewers. If interested, email the Interprofessional Academy of Educators.

The journal also is open for submissions through the journal website. One author on a manuscript must be an academy member.

Said Dr. Beam, "We look forward to getting submissions from the great educational scholarship we know is going on at UNMC."
