Dr. Shipp to lead Pittsburg State University

Daniel Shipp, EdD

On Friday, the Kansas Board of Regents named Daniel Shipp, EdD, the UNMC vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and associate to the chancellor at UNMC, the 10th president of Pittsburg State University.

Dr. Shipp will assume his new role in Pittsburg, Kansas, in June. He succeeds retiring PSU President Steve Scott.

“We’d like to extend our congratulations to Dan, Vanessa and their sons,” said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD. “Dan is an accomplished administrator and a wonderful colleague whose commitment to students helped us revitalize our student success team. We at UNMC will miss him greatly and wish him and his family well.”

Dr. Shipp joined UNMC full time in November 2021, after four years of serving both UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he continued to oversee student success and enrollment programs/services, as well as aid in the coordination of campus strategic planning, support of campus wellness programs including the Center for Healthy Living programs and services, and expansion of UNMC’s rural campus educational programs, specifically outreach with K-12 school districts and community colleges.

Following Friday’s announcement, Dr. Shipp thanked Chancellor Gold and the UNMC community. “I’m grateful for the experiences and relationships I’ve developed across UNMC and the university system, and proud of the advances we’ve made together to elevate student success. Our family loves Omaha and Nebraska. This will always be our first home. From the heart of Gorilla Nation in Pittsburg, Kansas, we look forward to watching UNMC and NU continue to reach new heights.”
